The E-Som Market is a monthly market in Somerville featuring local makers, artists, and small businesses, focusing primarily on locally produced products. Since 2015, their mission has been to support these communities by providing a space for people to show their work and to connect with one another. Born on the misty mountainsides of China, tea leaves have traveled centuries and miles to reach the modern tea table. Many people drink tea, but few know the order/sequence/etiquette of pouring an intoxicating cup of Chinese tea. In this workshop we’ll be focusing on the etiquette and order/sequence of brewing tea in a gong fu/Chinese style.

We will be brewing 5 - 6 kinds of Dancong Oolong tea from The Phoenix (Feng Huang) mountains in eastern Guangdong province. We look forward to sharing this delightful moment with all tea lovers!

We will leave behind our fast-paced chaotic lives, and immerse ourselves in the serene and harmonious practice of the traditional tea ceremony. You will learn how to select the proper teaware; how to arrange your tea set; how to hold the gaiwan/teapot, and its proper motions; and how to pour the tea.

The Mid-Autumn Festival in 2019 takes place on Friday September 13th. On the 15th of the eighth lunar month, the moon is at its roundest and brightest, symbolizing togetherness and reunion in Chinese culture. There are many traditions and celebrations to this big family reunion day. One of the most common and representative traditions is eating mooncakes. The round traditional mooncake is a symbol of family reunion, and the cake is sliced into pieces to share with the whole family. This year, we will make a non-baked snow skin mooncakes alone with Chinese loose leaf tea to celebrate this holiday. Join us for free!
